Grafikkartentreiber installieren

Hallo,

eine Frage von einem „Jungtier“.

Ich habe Debian Etch mit X11R7.2 installiert und habe nun
das Problem einen Grafikkartentreiber für Matrox Millennium G450
zu installieren. Der Treiber von Matrox lasst sich nicht installieren,
weil er nicht mit der aktuellen X11 Version „kann“.
Bei Matrox vorhandene Quellprogramme sind auch nach der X.Org Version
sortiert. Für X11R7.2 ist nichts vorhanden.
Ein Rückschritt auf eine ältere X.Org Version ist wohl nicht der geeignete Weg.
Kann mir jemand einen Tipp geben. Bitte bedenken, ich bin noch Linux Anfänger.

Es gibt in den Debian Quellen den Matrox Treiber "mga"

       The mga driver supports PCI and AGP video cards based on the following Matrox chips.  They are listed in approximate chronological order  of  production  (with  the  most
       recent chipsets listed last), so consult this list when you are unsure whether your card is meant when references are made to ‘G200 and later’ chips, for example.

       G200   Millennium G200 and Mystique G200

In der Datei /etc/X11/xorg.conf in der Section "Device" den Treiber auf mga umstellen sollte es tun.
