Raid 5 Resync dauert ewig

Hallo

Ich habe Debian 7.3 auf eine SSD installiert. Ich habe nun 4x4TB Festplatten, welche ich mit mdadm zu einem RAID5 verbunden habe.
Ich habe es mit diesem Befehl erstellt:

mdadm --create --force /dev/md0 --auto md --level=5 --raid-devices=4 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 /dev/sde1 
Ich habe nun

sudo mdadm --detail /dev/md0 

ausgeführt.
Er sagt mir das er im Resync ist und voraussichtlich noch 4301 Minuten dazu braucht. Ist das so in Ordnung oder stimmt hier etwas nicht?

Probiere es mal mit nur 3 Platten
(wikipedia: 3, 5, 9, ... Platten (2n+1)),
also 2+comp+spare.

Nebenbei,
bei einem Plattentausch dürftest Du auf ähnliche Zeiten kommen.
Dumm, wenn in der Phase noch ein Fehler passiert.

noch 4301 Minuten
~ 70 h
Falls Du die Dinger als RAID1 aufbaust, dürfte ein sync in Plattengeschwindigkeit laufen,
4.000.000MB / 100MB/s ~ 660min (je nach Geschwindigkeit).

Ich habe nun ein neues Raid 5 erstellt.
Befehl:

mdadm --create /dev/md0 --auto md --level=5 --raid-devices=3 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd
Jetzt sagt er mir 850 min und es läuft merklich schneller.
Ich möchte allerdings keine Spare und ich möchte die 4. Platte auch verwenden. Da die Platten leer sind Frage ich mich wieso er überhaupt so lange braucht.

Und wo bekommst Du ganz schnell eine passende Platte, wenn es knallt?
(Nach murphy meist am Wochenende oder wenn finanziell gerade klamm)

Da die Platten leer sind Frage ich mich wieso er überhaupt so lange braucht.
Meinst Du jetzt 4300min <-> 850min?
Ich hätte jetzt auch nicht gedacht, daß sich eine Abweichung vom 2n+1-Schema so stark bemerkbar macht.

Vielleicht war/ist die jetzt nicht eingeschlossene Platte auch fehlerhaft, 'dmesg'?
Oder war nicht aligned partitioniert?
Was ich aber nicht vermute, da wohl alle Platten mit demselben Tool oder Befehl partitioniert wurden(?)

Das lass mal meine Sorge sein. :)
Wenn eine Platte ausfällt kann ich den Server herunterfahren und warten bis ich die neue Platte habe.
Da ich auch noch ein Backup habe ist auch bei Ausfall von 2 Platten nicht alles verloren.

Re: Raid 5 Resync dauert ewig

Ist dir klar, dass der Resync nur in der Zeit stattfindet, in welcher die Platten idlen? Sollte auf dem System also Last herrschen, dann kann ein Resync "unendlich" lange dauern. Um das Verhalten zu beeinflussen gibt es Parameter im /proc-Dateisysten, mit welchen sich bestimmen lassen mit was fuer einem Durchsatz (mindestens und maximal) ein Resync erfolgen soll. Der Max-Wert ist fuer gewoehnlich auch sehr niedrig gewaehlt.

Der Resync macht mindestens einen Durchsatz von 1MB/s und maximal 200MB/s.
