Anfänger: X will nicht

Hallo,

habe gerade woody installiert. Wenn das System versucht gdm zu starten erscheint als Fehlermeldung:
'Screens found, but none have a usable configuration.'

Ich habe mir dann /etc/X11/XF86config-4 angesehen und das einzige was mir als Anfänger auffält, ist daß es 2 Abschnitte für die Maus-Konfiguration gibt:
einmal mit Identifier "configured Mouse", die andere mit "generic Mouse"
einmal mit Device "dev/psaux", die andere mit "dev/input/mice"
einmal mit Protocol "PS/2", die andere mit "ImPS/2"
einmal mit dem Eintrag "Corepointer" ohne weitere Angaben
in dem anderen Abschnitt steht "SendCoreEvents" mit der Wert "true".

Auf der gleichen Platte habe ich auch Suse 7.3 installiert, nur um die XFconfig-Dateien vergleichen zu können. Bei Suse gibt es nur ein Abschnitt für die Maus, alles andere sieht ähnlich aus und da funktioniert KDE auch?!

Ich habe ein PS/2 Logitech Trackman Marble und eine Geforce 2MX-200, wobei ich mich erstmal auf die "nv"-Treiber beschränken möchte, da ich keine 3D-bescheleunigung brauche.

Es wäre schön wenn Ihr mir einen Hinweis geben könntet.

kannst du ziemlich gut
die Xconfig bearbeiten.

Ich hab bei meiner ersten Installation mit TryAndError die richtige Xconfig gefunden

Mahlzeit,

versuch mal in deiner XF86Config-4 das Option "UseFBDev" "true"
aus zu kommentieren. (oder statt true auf false zu setzen)
Desweiteren würde ich dir schon empfehlen die neuesten Nvidia-Treiber
zu verwenden. Bei mir klappt X auch erst seit dem ich diese installiert
habe, wenngleich ich auch ne andere Grafikkarte hab. Schaden wirds
aber garantiert nix.

das erspart dir ne menge Arbeit!

Option "UseFBDev" "false" sollte Abhilfe schaffen.

Du kannst problemlose einen Mauseintrag löschen, achte aber darauf, dass Du ihn auch in der Section "ServerLayout" (unten) löscht. Generic Mouse ist eine IntelliMouse am USB, Configured Mouse eine PS/2 Maus.
