Linux auf Thinkpad R50p

Hi,
ich habe hier ein altes R50p von IBM mit Windows XP. Das System wurde seit Jahren nicht neu installiert und Windows nähert sich langsam aber sicher dem Zustand an, den es nach intensiver Benutzung üblicherweise einnimmt: Unbenutzbar.

Bevor ich mich jetzt wieder mit Windows rumschlage, dachte ich daran es mal mit einem vernünftigen Betriebssystem zu versuchen.

Jetzt meine Frage: Debian oder Ubuntu?

Mir ist klar, dass ich in einem Debian-Forum wohl eher Stimmen für die erste Alternative hören werde, und ich bin auf dem Desktop & Server auch sehr von Debian überzeugt. Allerdings frage ich mich ob Ubuntu auf dem Notebook nicht bequemer wäre?

normalerweise sollte debian ohne weiteres laufen.

ich weiß es nicht genau, aber für KDE gibts doch irgendwie richtig thinkpad-module und so weiter.

ich nutze sidux. das könntest du mal als live-cd ausprobieren.

Bequemer kann sein, aber das kann auch ungemütlich werden.
Debian rennt auf allen TPs hier ohne Herausforderungen und wird auch gut von Lenny unterstützt.
Die älteren, z.b. wie A31, T2x oder 600x etc. wurden auch schon gut von debian versorgt. Also mit einem Lenny machst Du definitiv nichts Falsch.
