Problem nach Update, Lenny

Hallo,
folgendes Problem:
Ich habe vor einigen Tagen ein Update (Adept) gemacht und seit dem startet das System nicht mehr richtig.
Zunächst läuft alles normal, die (Xfce)-Oberfläche erscheint kurz, dann verschwinden alle Icons und das Panel ist auch weg.
Einzig das Hintergrundbild und der Mauszeiger bleiben.
Über Alt+F2 kann ich ein Programmstartfenster öffnen und auch Programme starten.
Internet (über DSL-Router) funktioniert aber nicht.
Zunächst dachte ich die Ethernetkarte sei kaputt, aber unter Knoppix geht Internet.

Hallo nochmal,
Internet funktioniert komischerweise wieder, ich habe keine Idee warum.
Was ich gemacht habe, war die /etc/gdm/gdm.conf zu ändern.
Und zwar habe ich das auto login abgeschaltet. Die Hoffnung war, dann KDE starten zu können (weil der Fehler vielleicht in
xfce liegt).
Der gdm erscheint aber nicht, läuft nur die Uhr und nichts passiert. Dann habe ich /usr/bin/startkde versucht.
Da kam:
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to x server

Hat Jemand eine Idee, zumindest wie ich KDE starten könnte?

Die letzte Meldung widerholt sich etliche Male.
Vielen Dank schon, die andere Datei liefere ich nach wenn nopaste wieder geht.
Ist doch sehr lang und ich weiß nicht was wichtig ist.

so wie es aussieht ist xfce der meinung, das schon ein x server läuft,
grep die Xorg.log einfach nach EE durch und hau es hier rein .-)

Hallo,
ich habe gestern ein dist-upgrade gemacht, das hat aber nichts am Problem geändert.
Bemerkenswert ist vielleicht noch, dass ich mit Alt+F2 Programme starten kann, aber nicht alle.
Konqueror und Kile gehen z.B., aber Thunar nicht.
Ich stell jetzt hier einfach mal die ganze Xorg.0.log rein, in der Hoffnung, dass da
Jemand was draus ableiten kann.

Habe eben festgestellt, das ich keine .xintrc in meinem Homeverzeichnis hatte und
das die Umgebungsvariable DISPLAY nicht gesetzt ist.

Hängt das Problem damit zusammen?

habe folgendes gemacht:
Mich im single-user-mode eigelogt
Auf der Konsole zu root geworden
DISPLAY=:0 eingegeben
startxfce4 eingegeben

Das hat funktioniert, Oberfläche erschien und war bedienbar.
Ich war dann natürlich als root eingelogt, es kam eine Fehlemeldung hal betreffend
und ins Internet kam ich auch nicht.

Es scheint also irgendwie mit dieser DISPLAY-Variablen zu tun zu haben.
Hat da jetzt Jemand eine Idee?

Fürs Internet auf der Konsole folgende Befehle eingeben (alles als root):

Es müsste dann eine Ausgabe kommen, in der auch deine Netzwerkkarte aufgeführt wird (meist eth0), und dieser müsste eine IP-Adresse zugeordnet sein. Wenn dies nicht der Fall ist und die Netzwerkkarte in der Ausgabe nicht erscheint, Folgenden Befehl ausprobieren:

ifconfig eth0 up

Danach eventuell noch

/etc/init.d/networking restart

Gib dann wieder ein:

Ist die Netzwerkkarte dann da und hat sie eine IP-Adresse?

das mit dem Internet ist nicht ganz so wichtig. Habe es dennoch versucht, wie du es beschrieben hast aber bei ifconfig kam kein eth, nur lo.
Liegt das nicht am hal?

Zum anderen Prob.:
DISPLAY hat wohl nichts damit zu tun, habe es nochmal versucht, als root startxfce4 eingegeben,
sonst nichts, und es war wie zuvor beschrieben.

Bei der /etc/gdm/gdm.conf ist es so, dass ich
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=michael
zunächst auskommentiert hatte. Ich hoffte, ich würde dann den GDM zu sehen bekommen
und könnte dort KDE auswählen. Ging aber nicht.
Die # habe ich dann wieder weggenommen.
Außerdem stand der Text doppelt in der Datei, habe die eine Hälfte gelöscht.

Das "lo" ist das Loopdevice, damit der Rechner mit sich selbst kommunizieren kann. Schau mal ins Verzeichnis /dev, ob da überhaupt ein eth0 oder ein anderes eth vorhanden ist.

Für die Grafik noch mal Folgendes bitte als root auf einer Textkonsole ausprobieren (auf die kommst du mit <strg><alt><F1> bis <F5>):

Kommen da Fehlermeldungen? Um sie zu sehen musst du auf die Konsole, von der aus du den Befehl gestartet hast. Wenn ja, poste mal die Ausgabe.

Stimmt, bei mir ist es auch nicht. Ich war fest davon ausgegangen, dass eth0 als Gerätedatei in /dev zu finden ist.

Mit "ganz normal hochfahren lassen" meine ich, Rechner anschalten und abwarten.
Früher erschien dann die xfce-Oberfläche und alles war gut.
Jetzt erscheint das Hintergrundbild mit den Icons drauf, aber kein Panel oder sonst was.
Die Icons verschwinden nach 1 Sekunde wieder.
Mauszeiger ist da und läst sich bewegen.
Programme kann ich über Alt+F2 öffnen, so beispielsweise auch den Konqueror
und mit dem komme ich dann auch ins Netz.
Mit Alt+F2 gehen aber nicht alle Programme (sonst könnt man sich ja fast dran gewöhnen).
Habe auch versucht so xfce4-panel aufzurufen, ging aber nicht.

Mit "nicht-normal hochfahren" meine ich, bei Grub single-user auswählen.
Dann irgendwann root-passwort und danach startxfce4 eingeben.
Daraufhin bekomme ich meine Oberfläche (OK sieht etwas anders aus, weils ja roots ist)
und diese ist ganz normal bedienbar.
Aber das Internet funktioniert so nicht.
Es ist ja auch nicht so wichtig, dass root ins Netz kommt.

Ich denke mal irgendetwas beim Startvorgang läuft falsch, denn im Prinzip
funktioniert Xfce ja.
Vielleicht hängt es irgendwie mit den Benutzerrechten zusammen,
das der Benutzer für eine bestimmte Aktion nicht die nötigen Rechte hat?
Hab aber keine Ahnung wie das passiert sein soll und wo ich nachschauen müßte.

So, ich hoffe ihr könnt damit was tun und habt ne gute Idee!

OK, dann probier mal Folgendes wieder als root:

Du müsstest nun in eine grafische Oberfläche kommen, mit der du den Displaymanager konfigurieren kannst. Dort die Lasche "Sicherheit" auswählen und bei "Automatische Anmeldung aktivieren" den Haken herausnehmen. Dann auf Schließen klicken.

Jetzt legst du spaßeshalber einfach mal einen neuen Benutzer an. In der Konsole als root:

useradd -m -s /bin/bash testuser

Dem neuen User mit passwd ein Passwort geben. Mit <Alt><Strg><Backspace> den X-Server neu starten. Wenn alles gut gegangen ist, müsste jetzt der Displaymanager kommen. Versuche jetzt einmal, dich mit dem neuen Usernamen einzuloggen.

es scheitert am ersten Schritt!
Wenn ich gdmsetup eingebe kommt:

Hinter "display:" steht nichts.

Ich hatte ja auch schonmal die gdm.conf geändert um das autologin wegzubekommen.
Das ging auch nicht, da kam nur ein einfarbiger Bildschirm und Mauszeiger in Uhrengestalt.

Im Ubuntuforum habe ich einen ähnlichen Fehler gefunden: gdm bleibt mit Hintergrundfarbe und wartendem Mauszeiger hängen. Da hing es an einem fehlenden oder defekten Theme. Möglicherweise ist an der Stelle beim Update etwas schiefgelaufen.

Füge deshalb versuchsweise in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf in die Section [daemon] folgende Zeile ein:

Greeter=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmlogin

und kommentiere die Zeilen, die mit "AutomaticLogin" beginnen, aus. Starte dann den X-Server neu, vielleicht kommt GDM dann wenigstens ordnungsgemäß. Du könntest dann versuchen, dich einzuloggen.

Hat leider nicht funktioniert, bekomme keinen gdm zu sehen.

unter [greeter] eingtragen.
Du hattest [daemon] geschrieben.
Soll ich es noch mal unter [daemon] versuchen?

Aber mit den Themes ist vielleicht ein guter Ansatz, ich hatte
ein Xfce-Theme installiert.
Das erklärt vielleicht auch warum roots Oberfläche läuft, bei dem ist ja alles Standard.

Nein, unter [daemon], ich hab's bei mir hier ausprobiert; gdmsetup trägt es dort ein. Probiere es einfach mal. Es ist halt im Moment Trial-and-Error.

Poste mir doch bitte einmal auch nach dem Hochfahren die Ausgabe folgenden Befehls:

ps aux

Dieser Befehl spuckt aus, welche Prozesse gerade laufen.

Mir ist noch aufgefallen, wenn ich auf der Konsole als root startxfce eingebe kommt folgende Fehlermeldung:
