(23:04:43) meandtheshell: hi folks - who actually writes the /proc line entry to /etc/fstab - must be the installer - yes?
(23:05:29) vorlon: meandtheshell: yes
(23:06:27) meandtheshell: well, since I figured that /etc/rcS.d/S02mountkernfs.sh actually mounts proc to /proc, why does the installer still write the proc entry to /etc/fstab?
(23:06:38) meandtheshell: to override some settings from /etc/rcS.d/S02mountkernfs.sh ?
(23:07:21) vorlon: to not rely on init scripts mounting things that aren't part of the fstab, I think
(23:07:59) meandtheshell: can you elaborate that please?
(23:08:22) meandtheshell: who should rely on what at what stage in the boot process?
(23:08:46) vorlon: not sure what needs elaborating? The fact that S02mountkernfs.sh mounts it is not part of any documented API.
(23:09:41) meandtheshell: I see - so the /etc/rcS.d/S02mountkernfs.sh case is unique to debian?
(23:09:59) vorlon: yes, definitely
(23:10:17) meandtheshell: ah - ok - that clarifies a lot here
(23:11:30) meandtheshell: but the installer is (so to say) unique to debian too - why is there a need to ensure that proc gets mounted twice
(23:11:30) meandtheshell: - once with /etc/rcS.d/S02mountkernfs.sh and the other time with
(23:11:30) meandtheshell: - /etc/fstab
(23:12:32) meandtheshell: wouldn't /etc/rcS.d/S02mountkernfs.sh be enough?
(23:16:10) vorlon: yes, but that doesn't mean it's a documented API that the installer should depend on
(23:16:43) meandtheshell: vorlon: or let me put it that way - is there a documented API telling about the need for /etc/fstab to hold the /proc entry - I assume so ... - yes?
(23:18:55) vorlon: meandtheshell: well, there's fstab(5)
(23:20:09) meandtheshell: ok - yes - right
(23:25:56) meandtheshell: vorlon: well, where does fstab(5) explicitly say /etc/fstab must have a line dedicated to proc?
(23:28:33) meandtheshell: well, one might figure it from the whole context yes ...
23:30
(23:33:24) vorlon: it doesn't say that, but it doesn't say anything to the contrary, and neither does anything else unless you peek inside the script you mentioned
(23:36:10) meandtheshell: right - well, thx then and have fun 8-]
FAZIT
Bezüglich des Ursprungs Problems denke ich noch immer, das der Kernel was damit zu tun hat. Welchen hast du (OP)?
