wie mache ich ein kernel update?

ich weis das ist ne newb frage aber bin halt einer und habe sowas noch nie gemacht.
wer irgendwie ne kleine anleitung oder so hat wäre froh drum.
apt-get install kernel2.6.5 geht schonmal nicht

Das muesste heissen apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.5-1-386. Dazu brauchst du aber ein Sarge oder Sid.

Wobei man das 386 am Ende natürlich auch auf seinen CPUtype anpassen kann/sollte. Ein apt-cache search 2.6 sollte beim Finden helfen.

BTW: Für Woody gibt es schon teilweise Backports für den 2.6'er Kernel.

Nachtrag:

apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.5-1-386

Ich habe das so gemacht, und das funktioniert. Nachdem man die lilo.config ändert wie vorgeschlagen und x mal yes oder no eingibt rebootet das System sogar mit dem neuen Kernel. Allerdings: Nach dem Neustart wird die Netzwerkkarte (eth0) nicht mehr gefunden. (Verwende VMWare; ansonsten geht aber die Netzwerkkarte immer. Es liegt auch nicht am neusten Kernel, da ein Update auf 2.4 genau so endet)

OK, ich könnte ja zuerst auch mal in google suchen was das sein könnte. Ich weiss es nun. Sorry für die etwas doofe Frage :)

Aber weshalb die Netzwerkkarte nach einem Kernelupdate nicht mehr erkannt wird, ist mir immernoch unklar.

Debian Releases

Debian always has at least three releases in active maintenance: “stable”, “testing” and “unstable”.

stable
The “stable” distribution contains the latest officially released distribution of Debian.

This is the production release of Debian, the one which we primarily recommend using.

The current “stable” distribution of Debian GNU/Linux is version 3.0r2, codenamed woody. It was released on November 21st, 2003.
testing
The “testing” distribution contains packages that haven't been accepted into a “stable” release yet, but they are in the queue for that. The main advantage of using this distribution is that it has more recent versions of software, and the main disadvantage is that it's not completely tested and has no official support from Debian security team.

The current “testing” distribution is sarge.
unstable
The “unstable” distribution is where active development of Debian occurs. Generally, this distribution is run by developers and those who like to live on the edge.

The “unstable” distribution is called sid.

Ist wohl ein VMWare spezifisches Problem. Auf dem realen Rechner gehts.
(Habe mich nun von der VM auf das richtige System gewagt

)
