Probleme mit Schriftarten unter X

Hallo!
Ich ziehe gerade auf ein neues System um und möchte dort gerne die bitstream vera Schriftarten in "generic x11 applications" verwenden.

Ich habe also das Paket ttf-bitstream-vera installiert. Einige der bitstream schriften werden mir nun auch angezeigt:

Jedoch zum Beispiel nicht die bitstream vera san serif Schriften. Auf meinen alten System erhalte ich folgende Ausgabe (gekürtzt):

Was muss ich tun um diese Schriftarten bei mir zum Laufen zu bekommen?
In der /usr/share/doc/ttf-bitstream-vera/README.Debian schreiben sie lediglich etwas kryptisch

If you wish to use the fonts in generic X11
applications you will have to install x-ttcidfont-conf and follow the
instructions given there.

Aber das Paket x-ttcidfont-conf scheint es (nicht mehr?) zu geben?!

Ein fc-cache -f -v habe ich auch schon probiert.

Der entsprechende Abschnitt in der Readme scheint von 2003 zu stammen, das Bitstream-Paket selbst scheint mir 2009 das letzte mal aktualisiert worden. Seitdem kann sich viel geändert haben. https://packages.qa.debian.org/x/x-ttcidfont-conf.html sagt es sei 2012 rausgeflogen. Sieht nach Bug in der Doku aus, auf https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgrepo ... tream-vera hab ich auf die Schnelle nichts dazu gefunden. Kannst ja nochmal selbst durchsehen und ggfs nen neuen aufmachen.
