Bildschirmauflösung anpassen

Moin zusammen.
Habe vor einigen Wochen einen Laptop geschenkt bekommen. Leider ist die Bildschirmanpassung nicht optimal.
Auf der Internetseite des Herstellers ist der Treiber nur für Windows zum runterladen vorhanden.
Weiß jemand einen entsprechenden Befehl, den ich im Terminal benutzen kann?
Mein Laptop: Packard Bell EasyNote LM,
AMD Adlon II X2 Prozessor P320
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
17,3" 16:9

Ich habe Debian 8.4 Jessie installiert

Mhh, versuch es mal firmware-linux-nonfree zu installieren (Nonfree repo) und dann neustarten.

Ich nehme an mit "nicht optimal" meinst du das die eigentliche Maximale Aufloesung nicht ausgewaehlt werden kann?

Ja, genau das meinte ich. die Auflösung ist sehr breit.
Habe eben bei firmware geschaut. Dann bei Jessie. Nun bin ich ratlos, was und wie ich installieren soll.
Bin eben ein Anfänger. Aber ich mag nunmal Debian.

Er in deine sources.list gucken ob non-free aktiviert ist.
/etc/apt/sources.list

So das es dann ca. so aussieht:
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

Danach ein update machen und das Paket firmware-linux-nonfree installieren.

(Wie man non-free hinzufuegt haette man auch selbe ersuchen koennen )

mal xrandr probieren - damit kann man auch die Auflösung einstellen und das listet, was möglich ist. Hab ich bei mir entsprechend in der .xinitrc (starte X mit startx und nicht beim Booten)
